Daniel III My Fall 2002 issue of "On Point" magazine published by The Army Historical Foundation has an article; "Jackson Barracks Military Museum" by Elizabeth Oliver (Director, Jackson Barracks Military Museum). It is a very likely source of information for my research projects of Gramsters! Jackson Barracks was created in 1832 and named after Andrew Jackson. The museum was established in 1974 by the Louisiana State Legislature and opened in 1977. Its collections include uniforms, insignia, equipment, flags, banners and historical documentation, plus many other items. It is located between St. Claude and North Claiborne Avenues in New Orleans. Which was also the location of a holding facility for WWII German POWs captured in North Africa. Located in Jackson Barracks' Area A is Building 53, which is the military history library, which includes reference and microfilm. I am sure there are many items in this library of interest to Gramsters! It is open Monday through Friday from 0800 to 1600 hours, but closed on federal and state holidays. The terminal in the truck stop was not very easy to use. That contributed to one of the more humorous errors that I have made in sending the Gram. As you probably noticed, in the subject line of the email, I listed it at Gram 1847! Adding 1000 thousand Grams in the stroke of a key! Bob Olson is the 40th Fester and the 13th new Fester. Has that previously been announced in the Gram? I am very confused on that. In fact, I have the feeling that someone else reserved a spot recently and that I failed to mention it. Nonetheless, these are important thresholds. I new record grand total, and a record number of new Festers (12 new Festers each of the first two years). Editor Dear Gram, In a recent MPCGram Howard Daniel mentions that fact that his new 50 rpf propaganda note (P-M35) was watermarked and wonders if this could mean that they were captured genuine notes? Well, it could mean that, but fortunately I have researched the production of this note by Ellic Howe of the British PWE. They were coded H.692A-D by Howe and also balloon dropped with the code Q38. The operation was so popular that they were printed again as PWE H.917. We have reason to believe that about 500,000 in all were printed, so it is doubtful that such a great number could be confiscated by the British. I think we can say with some confidence that Howe printed both the front and back. All my copies are watermarked, so it is clear that the British produced an excellent product (maybe with the idea of also using the notes as counterfeits? I asked a knowledgeable friend what he thought about Howard's question and he said, "Interesting. I never considered it. All my British parodies have the watermark. The print quantities are so huge as to preclude, I suppose, the use of genuine German notes. It's curious that Howe would produce such an excellent forgery of the genuine note, right down to the watermark, and then print propaganda on the back. Perhaps the idea was that the soldiers were supposed to believe that these were done by disgruntled military, using genuine notes."
